High porosity hair
These products are advice and may work well for some people but not for others. The CG process is very personal and can differ per person. These products help you start or restart. Feel and see how your curls perform on these products. If you are not satisfied after using one or more products, try replacing them with another product with or without protein, or check the tips below.
Tips
- Don't clarify too often, only if you experience a lot of build-up or if curls are no longer cooperating properly
- Try to use Olaplex no. 3 or Bond Curl from Curlsmith regularly, this is a restorer and not a mask, always use nourishing products such as a mask or shampoo/conditioner afterwards.
- High porosity hair can often appreciate a co-wash
- Do not leave products such as a mask on for too long, max. 10 minutes
- Use protein products with medium to high protein content, such as Wheat, Oat, Soy, Quinoa
- Rinse your hair with lukewarm to cold water to close your hair cuticles
- If you have fine hair, try diffusing your hair instead of letting it air dry, as water can weigh your hair down the longer it sits in your hair, resulting in flat curls.
- If you have thick hair you can also use heavier products (with butters and oils such as castor/avocado oil in the first 10 ingredients)
- If you have fine hair, avoid heavier products
- If you experience stiff hair after using protein, replace it (temporarily) with a protein-free product
- If you experience sagging curls and your hair feels very soft, try adding a little more protein
Washing schedule
Start CG method with:
When you start with the CG method, we want to keep it simple for you. Over time, you will increasingly read that others do it differently, but we advise you to experiment with that when you have been in the process for a while.
- Start with a final wash (Elke Dag shampoo from Jumbo, or Daily Mild Shampoo from Kruidvat). Do not use this again unless you have used the wrong products, or are suffering from build-up, or have dyed your hair.
- Follow with a mask (max. 1x per week)
- Leave-in conditioner
- Gel , cream or mousse
Next wash day:
- Co-wash or shampoo with conditioner
- Leave-in conditioner
- Gel, cream or mousse
In between wash days you can refresh your curls if necessary:
- Use a spray bottle to slightly dampen your hair and reactivate your products in your hair
- Wet your hands and put some gel, cream on your hands and go over your curls with praying hands, scrunch and let it dry
- Refresh with a mousse on dry hair
- Refresh with a gel, cream or mousse on damp hair
