Everything about wavy hair: the perfect routine for beautiful wavy locks

What is wavy hair?

According to The Andre Walker Hair Typing System - wavy hair classifies as hair type 2a, 2b or 2c. From a light stroke (2a) to a more wavy curl pattern (2C). The rating system was created in the 1990s by Andre Walker. He was, among other things, Oprah Winfrey's personal hairstylist. Wavy hair falls between styles of curly hair (spiral). Many curly heads have multiple hair types. Do you have predominantly wavy hair? Then this blog is for you!

The perfect TreLuxe routine for wavy hair

The TreLuxe brand has a wide range of hair products that are suitable for wavy hair.

Step 1: Cleaning

The best routine always starts with a clean scalp and hair. The TreLuxe Renew & Restore is a mild and sulfate-free cleaning. It is specially formulated with botanical cleansing ingredients to wash build-up of product residue and dirt from the hair and scalp without disrupting the hair's natural pH balance.

Step 2: Primer

The TreLuxe Untie the Knot, leave-in is a lightweight conditioner with protein. It prevents frizz. After you apply the conditioner, it will be easier to go through it with the brush. The leave-in conditioner hydrates and nourishes the hair.

Step 3: Styling

TreLuxe gel and serum are suitable styling products for wavy hair. These are lightweight products with protein. You can use them both or separately. Tip: experiment!

Gel - The TreLuxe Hi-Definition Styling gel has a good hold and provides long-lasting curl definition. The perfect support for wavy hair!

Serum - The TreLuxe ReFlex Curl Styling Serum is made to control frizz. The serum is lightweight and will not weigh the hair down.

With these 5 tips your wavy hair will really come into its own!

Tip 1: Protein

Alternate sufficiently between products with and without protein. Use a styling product with protein to boost the bounce of wavy hair.

Tip 2: Hold

Wavy hair often needs extra support to maintain the resilience of wavy hair for days. This could include a styling product, such as a gel, that provides a firm hold.

Tip 3: Lightweight

To create volume with wavy hair, it is important to use lightweight products so that your curls do not sag. A lightweight product is often thin and watery and contains little to no oils.

Tip 4: Application technique

The suitable application technique for wavy hair is the praying hands technique and then scrunching onto soaking wet hair. Praying hands means that you use 'praying hands' from top to bottom in one movement to apply gel or mousse to your wavy hair . Scrunching involves placing your hair in your hands with an upward movement and then pinching it at the roots. The squishy sound is important. If you don't hear the sound, add more water.

Tip 5: Popping method

There are 4 different plopping methods: Plopping, wet plopping, micro plopping and dry plopping. All methods are suitable for wavy hair.

Plopping is wrapping your soaking wet hair with a microfiber towel for about 10 minutes after applying all the products to your hair. You do this before diffusing or letting your hair air dry. With micro plopping, you squeeze the excess water from your hair with a microfiber towel after you have applied all the products. Both methods speed up drying time, reduce frizz and maintain your curl pattern.

Wet plopping is a way to moisturize your curls with a shower cap after applying all the products to soaking wet hair. You keep the shower cap on for at least 10 minutes. It will promote frizz reduction and the wavy curl pattern from the roots.

Dry popping is a way to let the hair rest for a while. After diffusing your hair, use a buff or satin scarf - This will reduce frizz and keep the wavy curl pattern intact for longer.

What is best to avoid?

These 4 things will weigh down your wavy hair:

1. Heavy products

Avoid heavy products as much as possible. What is meant by heavy products? This refers to products with a thick substance, but also products that contain many oils as ingredients.

2. Lots of product

Be careful not to use too much product. For example, the use of multiple styling products with or without leave-in conditioner, or the amount of product you apply.

3. Product at start

Be careful when applying styling products directly to the roots. This causes your hair to sit flat.

4. Heat

Use heat tools such as a hair straightener as little as possible. This causes your curl definition to be lost and broken.

Which tools are important for wavy hair?

These 4 tools will strengthen and protect your wavy hair curl pattern:
1. Brush

Use a Denman Brush D3 or D4 as a styling brush to define your wavy hair. Denman Brush D4 - is suitable for long wavy hair. The Denman Brush D3 - is more suitable for short to medium hair.

2. Towel

Use a microfiber towel - to minimize friction and frizzy waves.

3. Hair protection

Use a satin pillowcase or satin bonnet to protect your wavy hair during the night.

4. Headband

Zazzy Bandz - is a specially designed headband. The unique design allows you to keep your wavy hair without headaches.
